By Clay Goodwin
The Cleveland Browns get to add another player in the first round in the 2020 draft. Let’s look at the team’s best ever picks in the first round.
The NFL draft is the off-season’s version of the Super Bowl for Cleveland Browns fans. Each year fans look forward to April and which players will be brought on to join their beloved Browns.
For weeks, fans guess and wishfully predict various outcomes of the draft that would fill the team’s needs and lead the team to the playoffs. And as for after the draft? Well, of course, all Browns fans find ways to convince themselves they have drafted the newest studs to enter the league. Year after year.
Unfortunately, in recent years, the draft has been far from good to the Browns. In the last 20 years, there have been far more busts than productive players drafted in the first round by Cleveland.
There have been some promising draft picks the last two years, though. And Browns fans surely hope some of these players lead to team success and become the backbone to the franchise for years to come.
There have certainly been success stories, however. The Browns’ first-round picks date back to when the Browns first entered the NFL in the year 1950. In those 70 years, those first-round selections have produced four Hall of Famers and likely a couple to follow.
Because of the inevitable uncertainty of the draft, the first round is not always where you get your best players, but it is definitely a great chance. Some of the great Browns’ teams have been built by the likes of these day one selections.
Let’s dive into the Cleveland Browns best five players, all-time, drafted in the opening round of the NFL draft.
