5. Paul Warfield, Wide Receiver

Paul Warfield was a receiver drafted for the Browns in the first round of the 1964 NFL draft. Warfield played his college ball at Ohio State University under head coach Woody Hayes.

Warfield played for the Browns between 1964 and 1969 and then also returned for two more seasons in 1976 and 1977. He was voted an eight-time Pro Bowler and a two-time All-Pro player. He won the 1964 NFL Championship with the Browns, and also won two Super Bowls with the Miami Dolphins — including the year they went undefeated.

A huge part of the success Cleveland had in the 1960s, Warfield had over 700 yards and 5 touchdowns in all 5 of his healthy seasons in the 60s (he played one game in 1965 due to injury). He also averaged over 20 yards a catch in four of those five seasons.

Even when Warfield came back to the Browns in 1976, his production was still solid with over 600 yards and six touchdowns. He was a true weapon for the Browns’ offense.

Warfield was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1983. Warfield is decorated with plenty of stats and awards and was an integral part of the team’s success. He is one of the best first-round picks in Cleveland Browns history.
