1. Eric Ebron, Indianapolis Colts

Another former first-round pick at the tight end position, Eric Ebron is set to hit free agency after spending the past two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. Originally a member of the Detroit Lions, Ebron was one of Matthew Stafford‘s favorite targets, catching 186 passes for 2,070 yards with 11 touchdowns in four seasons.

However, once he was released by the Lions, it appeared he may have been underutilized in the Motor City. Once he was freed up to sign elsewhere, Ebron landed with the Indianapolis Colts on a two-year deal worth $13 million. In his first season in Indy, he set career highs with 66 receptions for 750 yards and 13 touchdowns.

That was with Andrew Luck throwing him the ball and after Luck abruptly retired in 2019, Ebron’s effectiveness dropped. With Jacoby Brissett as the starter, Ebron had just 31 receptions for 375 yards and three touchdowns — although he did miss five games as well while only recording two starts.

Once again a free agent, Ebron will be just 27-years old when the season starts and should have no shortage of suitors. Even with the competition for his services expected to be fierce, Cleveland should at least check the temperature there.

Kevin Stefanski proved in Minnesota that he can get two tight ends on the field at the same time and find success. That could mean that both Ebron and Njoku should be able to log snaps. And while Njoku’s ceiling in the NFL is still unknown, Ebron has proven time and again that he can be a consistent threat in the NFL.
