AntoineWinfield, Jr.. Pick Analysis. Round 2. Pick 41. S. player. 852. Scouting Report

Just 14 picks after making their opening selection, the Cleveland Browns are back on the clock with the No. 41 overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. With this pick, they once again land a plug-and-play starter at a position of great need. This time, it’s at safety as they pick Antoine Winfield, Jr. out of Minnesota.

The son of a former 14-year NFL starter, Winfield was a playmaker for the surprising Gophers. In 2019, Winfield had a season to remember as he recorded 83 tackles with seven interceptions and two forced fumbles. It was a great finish to a career that started out strong but they had back-to-back injury-plagued seasons in 2017 and 2018.

It also put him on the map as a potential starter in the NFL but there were still some who questioned him as a prospect. One reason for concern was his size (5-foot-9, 203-pounds). With Winfield shorter than desired, his length was a question. Also a question was his speed.

The good news for him, and the Browns if they do pull the trigger here, is that Winfield did at least quiet those speed concerns at the Combine. Winfield proved that he has more than enough juice in his legs as he ran a 4.45 in the 40-yard dash.

With that out of the way, teams can look at him as a player capable of playing either safety position and Cleveland can use a starter at both spots.
