Round 6. Pick 187. RB. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. SalvonAhmed. 818

This pick isn’t as much about any current need as it is future planning. The Browns have a beast at running back in Nick Chubb, who finished with 1,494 yards last season — just his second in the NFL. They also had 2017 NFL Rushing leader Kareem Hunt, who is set to be a restricted free agent.

More from Browns Draft

Hunt is likely to return on a one-year deal considering he’s not too far removed from the off-field incident that got him removed from Kansas City — as well as the fact that he’s a restricted free agent. Cleveland wants him back and he would be wise to take the prove-it deal with the team he seemed to enjoy being on last season.

Behind those two, it’s more question than answer. Dontrell Hilliard was great in the preseason but it never transitioned to the regular season. D’Ernest Johnson had 10 touches on offense after making a name for himself in the AAF. He did have some returns though as well, which gives him value heading into 2020.

But again, this is all about adding depth and creating competition which is why Salvon Ahmed from Washington is the pick. He’s a quick mover but tested pretty slow at the Combine. He also needs better vision but he has enough athleticism to test the bottom of the Cleveland depth chart.
