2018 – Derwin James, S, Florida State

After the 2018 season, Browns fans thought this may be the best draft ever.  However, the number one pick Baker Mayfield took a step back in his second season as the team’s quarterback.

Additionally, Denzel Ward the defensive back taken at number four from Ohio State has also struggled with injuries since a breakout rookie season. Given a poor coaching situation in 2019 (my opinion), I think both young guys still have the potential to be great players. Let’s hope they turn the corner in 2020.

I’m a Buckeye homer and want Ward to be great, but there is no doubt Derwin James is going to be a star in the NFL. He may even be the next Ed Reed if he stays healthy. James was limited last year to five games because of injury, but in his rookie season, he earned pro-bowl and all-pro honors.  James racked up 3.5 sacks, 105 tackles, and 3 interceptions. Look for big things in the future from James.

2019 – After trading for Odell Beckham Jr. last offseason the Browns found themselves without a first-round pick. Although they didn’t technically pass over any stars without a pick, the Browns picked up a great value pick in the second round with cornerback Greedy Williams. Many expected Williams to go in the first round, but somehow, he fell to Cleveland at pick 46.  Let’s hope Ward and Williams can be a dominating tandem for years to come.

Remember what I stated in the beginning, hindsight is always 20/20, but it is sickening to look at the talent the Browns have missed on since 2010. What’s even more alarming are the picks from 2012-2016, where no player lasted more than three years in the organization.

Next. Browns trade back, load up in 7-round mock. dark

The Browns will find themselves in a tricky situation for the 2020 draft as well, as many predict them picking a left tackle. There are several scenarios where they will have their pick of three or four top talents. Will the Browns pick the right one?
