3. Wide Receiver

This one is weird because, at first glance, wide receiver is the strength of the team. Both Odell Beckham, Jr. and Jarvis Landry are Pro Bowlers and they each topped 1,000-yards last season. That happened even though OBJ had what was considered a letdown season where he left a lot on the table — which was more due to the play-calling of Freddie Kitchens as opposed to anything Beckham did.

As good as they are at No. 1 and No. 2, the Browns receiver corps falls off drastically after that. Right now, their depth chart has Damion Ratley and KhaDarel Hodge as the primary wideouts behind Juice and OBJ. While each has their good traits, Ratley had just 12 receptions for 200 yards with one touchdown and Hodge had four receptions for 76 yards.

While it’s feasible that either one could make a big jump this coming season, banking on that isn’t the best plan. Instead, the Browns need to make sure they protect themselves by adding more talent to this group.

There is some help at least considering they’re really strong at tight end with Austin Hooper and David Njoku. Cleveland also has Kareem Hunt, a really good pass-catching running back who will surely get his share of targets as a receiver. However, if something should happen to where OBJ or Landry were to miss a week, Cleveland’s offense would be in a lot of trouble.

Whether they decide to go to the draft for help or free agency, the Browns need to make sure to add another receiver that can help them improve their aerial attack this season.
