Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has a connection to a prominent character from Netflix’s, Tiger King. It is Joe Exotic, “Doc” Antle, or Carole Baskin?

It would be almost impossible to escape the mania that is Netflix’s, Tiger King. Countless celebrities, from Beyonce to Floyd Mayweather, have been linked to one of the central characters of the show through the phenomena known as cub petting. You can also add Cleveland Browns superstar wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to that list.

What a time to be alive. Many Americans are finding themselves in self-quarantine and in the process are consuming a record amount of streaming services. The most prominent series to come out of this age of the coronavirus quarantine is Netflix’s, Tiger King.

For those who haven’t watched the show, think equal parts: train wreck, cult worship, and mix in a heavy dose of Jerry Springer.

The show features larger than life characters that if you saw them in a movie you would have a hard time believing they are based on real people. Life is certainly stranger than fiction when it comes to the world of big cat owners. One of the prominent characters on Tiger King is Bhagavan “Doc” Antle.

“Doc” Antle is the owner of Myrtle Beach Safari, an interactive zoo where the customers can take part in the act of cub petting. Over the years, Antle has parlayed his stature in the big cat community into appearances on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and has even had some of his animals appear in numerous Hollywood films.

Antle, more than any other big cat owner, has used his status to rub shoulders with many celebrities from the sports and entertainment world over the years.

While these celebrities’ actions of taking part in cub petting aren’t nefarious in nature, the act is more than frowned upon by animal rights activists.

These activists, like PETA for example, see cub petting as exploiting tigers in a cheap publicity stunt and at the same time note that the practice is extremely dangerous.

Odell Beckham Jr. visited Myrtle Beach Safari back in January of 2019. He was accompanied by the ‘Real Tarzann’, a self-proclaimed “Animal Guy From Instagram”.

In a video posted on Beckham’s Instagram account, you can see the wide receiver petting and playing around with tigers and even playing catch with a chimpanzee. While this was all done in good-natured fun, not all see it in that light.

Beckham isn’t the only NFL star to have visited Myrtle Beach Safari to take part in playing around with captive tigers, Ndamukong Suh and Marquise Goodwin are among others who have done the same. It’s hard to imagine these athletes are privy to the stigma that is carried by animal activists towards cub petting.

Although posting these images and videos to social media is a sure-fire way to find out how animal rights activists like PETA feel about the situation.
