Round 1. Pick 10. player. 814. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. AndrewThomas. OT

Many fans have fallen in love with Mekhi Becton and Tristan Wirfs who both blew scouts away at the 2020 combine.  But let’s not forget it isn’t always about the combine.  But, when you flip on the film, many scouts argue the two top tackles are likely Andrew Thomas and Jedrick Willis Jr.  Given that the Browns locked up the best right tackle available in free agency with Conklin, I look for the Browns to go with the true left tackle Andrew Thomas.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

I’m a die-hard Ohio State Buckeye fan, and even I will admit I love the fact that Thomas played against top SEC pass-rushers.  It’s great that Wirfs and Becton ran well and showed great athleticism, but don’t forget Thomas is six-foot five-inches and still ran a 5.22 40-yard dash and put up 225 an impressive 21 times on the bench press.  Thomas also has the longest arms of the tackles at 36 and one-eight inches.

Thomas was a three-year starter for Kirby Smart at Georgia and would come prepared to be the day-one starter at left tackle.  After the departure of Joe Thomas, the Browns have had a revolving door at tackle, all with mediocre play.  While it isn’t fair to put that kind of pressure on talent, the tape shows he could be the next Browns tackle for ten years.

After being sacked 40 times in 2019, Baker Mayfield will be thrilled to see Jack Conklin and Andrew Thomas suited up in brown and orange.  With much better protection in 2020, look for Mayfield to shine with much credit given to the rookie tackle Thomas.

If teams like the Los Angeles Chargers, Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars get quarterback hungry, the Browns could be in a prime position to trade back three or four spots and still land a top tackle.  Four quarterbacks would have to go in the top nine for that to work, which could be possible.  With the Browns needing to add depth this could be a strategy from Andrew Berry.
