2019 Week 2 vs. New York Jets

This game is infamous for Garrett because of a hit that he put on Jets quarterback Trevor Siemian that ended his season and landed Garrett $42,000 in fines.

He made a couple of bonehead mistakes, but that shouldn’t take away from his great game. He absolutely dominated the Jets offensive line, especially Kelvin Beachum. Garrett was the best player on the field and shut down the Jets offense almost by himself.

On the first drive for the Jets offense, the defensive line ran a stunt and somehow Garrett came unblocked and buried Siemian to put an end to the drive. A couple drives later is when he was flagged for the late hit on Siemian after he released the ball.

He was unblockable on run plays, so New York was running away from him a lot, but he still managed to make five tackles.

On another sack, he bull-rushed Beachum and drove him five yards into the backfield before getting his hands on the quarterback. Then on the very next series, he did the same thing, coming up with another sack. Garrett had a career-high three sacks.

He didn’t get a sack in the fourth, but he was in the backfield almost the entire time. Siemian was replaced by Luke Falk, who felt Garrett’s wrath as well to start the fourth. He beat his block and drove Falk to the turf with force and set the tone for the rest of the quarter.

This fantastic performance did end in a 23-3 Browns’ victory. It looked like Cleveland had turned the corner in 2019, but now we know that wasn’t the case.
