Round 1, Pick 10: Jedrick Wills, OT, Alabama

Adding former Tennessee Titans right tackle Jack Conklin was a great start to rebuilding the offensive line. The Michigan State product has been one of the league’s dominant offensive linemen since coming into the league in 2016.

Pairing him with left guard Joel Bitonio and center J.C. Tretter is a great first move by Andrew Berry. But, the Browns should be going further to keep Baker Mayfield upright. Enter Alabama’s Jedrick Wills at No. 10 overall.

In this mock draft, Wills was the only tackle prospect left of the “big four” of himself, Andrew Thomas, Tristan Wirfs, and Mekhi Becton. While both Thomas and Wirfs are likely better prospects for the Browns, Wills is perhaps the most physically skilled tackle of the top four.

Wills played right tackle at Alabama, but his technique is good enough to flip to the left side of the line. Wills rarely does the “wrong thing” when fighting off defensive ends, and the chance to guard against Cleveland’s resident defensive beast Myles Garrett in practice should help him get even better.

There has been some buzz about the Browns perhaps trading back from this spot to draft either  Ezra Cleveland from Boise State or Houston’s Josh Jones. While the analytics-driven Browns front office might want to make this move, prospects like Thomas or Wills may actually be the better analytical choice. Still, if the Browns are going to make a big move down the board, it’s certainly going to be here.
