2. Shaun Wade, CB, Ohio State

Another year, another Ohio State cornerback going in the first round of the NFL Draft. The Buckeyes have been consistently pumping out backfield defenders since the turn of the millennium and 2021 will be no different. Shaun Wade looks to be next in line for Ohio State, and the Browns may look to pair him up with Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams.

The inconsistency of Cleveland’s cornerback play has been frustrating over the past two years. As a rookie, Denzel Ward looked like a home run hometown pick for the Browns, but his sophomore slump proved to be a bit of a killer for their defense in 2019. Still, Ward has a lot of potential as he moves into year three, and perhaps working under Joe Woods will help him get back to his rookie self.

Even still, an early look at cornerbacks from Columbus can’t hurt. Wade will have a chance to be the top guy in the Buckeyes’ secondary next year, and he’ll get one year to prove that he too should be a first-round pick. If the Browns make a move to bolster their secondary in 2021, Wade should be one of the first prospects they even take a look at.
