Wide receiver is another position where the Browns could use some help. They do deserve some credit because they did address this need recently, which needed to be done. Sure, Odell Beckham, Jr. and Jarvis Landry each had over 1,000-yards receiving last year but there wasn’t much help behind them. And up until the draft, that remained the case.

Cleveland hadn’t added a receiver in free agency and it appeared Rashard Higgins was on the way out. Then, they ended up landing a steal with their final pick, taking Michigan’s Donovan Peoples-Jones. Following that move, they did decide to bring back Higgins on a one-year deal.

With that being said, it feels as though the top four spots are locks at this point. But beyond that, anything can happen. Damion Ratley and KhaDarel Hodge were ahead of Higgins for much of last season as they seemed to be preferred by the previous regime. With the change on the sideline, there’s an even playing field that could help Tony Brown as he fights with Hodge, Ratley, D.J> Montgomery, and Taywan Taylor for the final spot — or two.

A former wideout for Texas Tech, Brown transferred to Colorado in 2017. After sitting out a year, he took the field in 2018 and had 32 catches for 333 yards and a touchdown. He then had a career-year, catching 56 passes for 707 yards and five touchdowns.

He’s not overly fast, but Brown is 6-foot-1 (something Cleveland needs) and is a very smart route runner. Much like Higgins, who was a favorite of Baker Mayfield’s, he wins with precision and solid change of speed and rarely drops passes. That could help him as he looks to make an impression and stick with the Browns.
