2. Clay Matthews, Linebacker

When it became time for the Browns to start adding guys in free agency and the draft came around, one thing was clear — they focused on adding to spots on their roster that did not have much depth. Out of all three guys on this list, adding Clay Matthews would easily provide the most depth to multiple positions on the defensive side of the ball for the Browns.

Matthews can play just about any linebacker spot on the field, a huge plus especially when talking depth on a given defense. When you look at the Browns, they still need a bit of help when it comes to linebackers. Matthews will come in and not only produce but teach the second year and rookie linebackers.

The veteran linebacker would also be a cheaper option, again keeping in mind extra money is going to go to extending guys on the current roster. Last year, Matthews had eight sacks with 37 total tackles. For the price it looks like Matthews is seemingly going to be snatched up for, eight sacks would absolutely be worth it.

Matthews’ dad is also a legend in terms of the Browns, making a Browns’ appearance for his son a realistic option. Matthews is a durable and a solid overall cheap veteran candidate the Browns should look into for adding depth to a defense that needs it.
