1. Jadeveon Clowney, EDGE
This choice seems to be the most obvious along with the most popular choice for the Browns in terms of adding a veteran free agent to the defense. There has been tons and tons of buzz surrounding Jadeveon Clowney and his links with Cleveland. It’s clear they have the money to pull the trigger on such a deal, so what is the hold-up?
Clowney would without a doubt be the most expensive deal remaining for the Browns at this point. Seeking around $15-17 million a year for a one or two year contract, Clowney is going to have to either sign a short deal like that or take less money to prove he is worthy of a long term deal.
The injuries, the medicals, and as some label it as “inconsistent” play have haunted Clowney throughout this whole process. It goes without saying that the former number one overall pick can still produce big time on the field, it just comes at a higher cost and a bigger risk that most people want to take at this point.
Clowney has never had a season with 10 or more sacks, coming close to it when he had 9.5 back in 2017. Clowney only had 3 last year, but alongside Myles Garrett, it is very possible that number could shoot up very quickly.
Again, Clowney is absolutely the most popular choice that remains in free agency, and it will be fun to see how it plays out and where he ends up landing.
