Case Keenum

Kevin Stefanski brought the best out of NFL journeyman Case Keenum in 2017. Keenum has played for five teams in his nine-year career and had 11 of his 27 total wins with the Minnesota Vikings and Stefanski in 2017.

Fans have speculated that Keenum was brought in to Cleveland to eventually replace Mayfield, but look for Keenum to be nothing more than a mentor. Keenum was able to thrive in the Stefanski system, but Mayfield is far more talented and will easily beat out Keenum for the starting job.

Keenum is still a great addition to the Browns roster. He knows the Stefanski system and can be a mentor to Mayfield who is willing to learn. Not only that but if an injury did occur, the season would not have to be a total waste with Keenum under center. Last year vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers Mayfield missed a few series for a hand injury and the offense struggled to get the plays in with Garrett Gilbert under center.

Kevin Davidson & Garrett Gilbert:

Let’s get straight to the point; if Kevin Davidson or Gilbert see the filed in the regular season the Browns are likely in trouble. Gilbert served as the backup most of last season with an injury to Drew Stanton, but in limited action struggled tremendously. Davidson is a 2020 undrafted rookie from Princeton and there is yet to be any NFL tape to judge.

With a new regime, look for Gilbert to be on the outside looking in for a roster spot, but could land on the practice squad. While Davidson won’t likely see any regular-season action, look for Berry to try and develop his guy and see if it can turn into something. If Mayfield would continue to struggle in 2020, the Browns could turn to Case Keenum, but neither Davidson or Gilbert would be long term solutions at quarterback.

The Browns overall quarterback room is as strong as any in the league. With a veteran backup, look for Mayfield to really develop this season and answer all the questions on if he is the future of Cleveland.
