No 1. Joe Schobert, Linebacker

No, I do not think Joe Schobert was worth the money he wanted from Cleveland and I am glad the Browns did not give in to his wants of that new extension. Schobert is a solid linebacker, but nothing that you cannot replace with time and good coaching.

The biggest thing the Browns will miss from Schobert outside of his play? Veteran leadership. Schobert will be entering his fifth year in the league this coming season, the first one not a member of the Browns has he signed with the Jaguars a while back.

Schobert was the voice of the Browns defense for a few years. As the starting middle linebacker, it is your job to mold everyone and everything together and get the guys fired up. While the number show that Schobert had a good year last year after totaling four interceptions and 133 total tackles, inconsistency is a word that haunted him a bit.

In 2018, Schobert led the league with a 9.8 percent missed tackle rate. Last season, Schobert was also having missed tackle issues as he had 16 missed tackles which was tied for 9th most in the league.

Yes, Schobert is a great guy and he loved Cleveland. Does that mean he’s a great linebacker? Does that mean he was worth $15 million a year? No.

While there are a few categories the Browns will miss Schobert’s presence in, letting him walk was another smart move of many so far from Browns new general manager Andrew Berry and company.
