Minkah Fitzpatrick – Free Safety

This is a tough decision but hear out the strategy before destroying the pick. The easy answer is T.J. Watt, who has destroyed Chris Hubbard for the last few years and made Mayfield’s life miserable at times.

However, safety is likely the biggest need for the Browns. Yes, Andrew Sendejo and Karl Joseph will be solid starters next year with rookie Grant Delpit. But both Sendejo and Joseph have question marks.

Minkah Fitzpatrick was a star in 2019 for the Pittsburgh Steelers and is the best safety in the AFC North currently. After Fitzpatrick was traded from the Miami Dolphins, the Steelers defense was one of the best in the league.

In 14 games with the Steelers, Fitzpatrick racked up 57 tackles, five interceptions, and two fumble recoveries. With that, Fitzpatrick was elected to his first pro-bowl and earned first-team all-pro honors.  Keep in mind, this kid is only 23 years old.

Fitzpatrick has lived up to the hype of being the No. 11 overall pick from Alabama in 2018 and will likely be causing issues for the Browns for years to come. It’s not time to compare him to the great Troy Polamalu as Fitzpatrick hasn’t shown the ability to rush the passer or step into the box to stop the run, but he certainly has the ball skills to make any quarterback nervous.

The thought of going into 2020 with Delpit and Fitzpatrick would make me feel tremendous compared to Joseph and Sendejo, who have both suffered from injuries at times. After his rookie campaign in 2020, look for Delpit to be a guy many teams would want to steal from the Browns.
