3 Cleveland Browns players who could lose their starting jobs in 2020
By Hank Kilburn
2. Sheldrick Redwine
This is another case of a high draft pick taking a starting job. When the Browns drafted Grant Delpit in the second round, it was a signal they were trying to solidify that position.
Sheldrick Redwine started five games and appeared in 12 games overall last year and was decent at that time. However, he didn’t do enough to sway his new coach or general manager that he is the man for the job.
Redwine is a young player who would fit in more of a rotational role than being the No. 1 guy. In his 12 appearances, Redwine gave up 166 yards and two touchdowns on 16 targets with a missed tackle rate of 14 percent. It’s not that he isn’t good, he’s just not particularly great at anything.
The Browns also signed veteran Andrew Sendejo, who is a better pass defender and has more success at tackling than Redwine. The battle for the starting position will likely come down to Delpit and Sendejo. If Delpit proves his health is at 100 percent, the Browns should have another LSU starter in the secondary.
Redwine is likely to be assigned spot duty between safety positions if he makes the team. He will need to make the most of it if he wants to audition for another team.
