Goal No. 1: Place in the top half in completion percentage

The first goal for Baker Mayfield for 2020 is placing in the top half of the league in completion percentage. That’s among qualified starting quarterbacks, for context.

Last season, Mayfield was near the bottom of the NFL in completion percentage, as he completed only 59.4 percent of his throws in 2019 for the Browns. Only Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills was worse in that metric, according to Pro Football Reference.

Anyhow, despite Mayfield’s inaccuracy last season, with better rapport with Odell Beckham Jr., Njoku back, and Austin Hooper as a key pass-catcher, Mayfield should be much more on-target. Jarvis Landry will always help in the middle of the field, too, and Kareem Hunt out of the backfield will be a terrific safety valve.

In 2020, this goal of placing in the top half of the NFL in accuracy for Mayfield, even regarding last season and him being in the bottom ten as a rookie in that category, seems attainable.

Mayfield should have a considerably better offensive line protecting him, again. With hopefully more consistent mechanics/footwork for Mayfield in working with offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, too, Mayfield should be way more accurate this coming season.

The pieces are in place for that for him in year three, and with him still not exactly being a dink-and-dunk guy by nature, even so, placing in the top half of the NFL in completion percentage would be really encouraging.

The second goal for Mayfield has to do with him protecting the ball.
