2. Kevin Mack, Earnest Byner — Cleveland Browns 1985

Another famous Cleveland Browns running back duo comes up when thinking about Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt as you have the Browns talented running backs from the 1985 season. That year, Cleveland had Earnest Byner entering his second season with Kevin Mack coming in as the high-profile rookie.

Picked out of Clemson in the supplemental draft in 1984, Mack spent his first season of pro football playing for the Los Angeles Express of the USFL. He then joined the Browns and as an NFL rookie, he rushed for 1,104 yards and seven touchdowns. Byner, who was coming off a 426-yard rookie campaign, added 1,002 yards and eight more touchdowns.

While Mack was listed as a fullback and even earned the nickname “Mack Truck”, he was only playing at 224-pounds, which is actually three pounds lighter than Nick Chubb. Byner was listed at 215-pounds, making him a bit bigger than Hunt who comes in at 201, but those two are actually similar in their ability to beat teams as a receiver just as badly as they can on the ground.

Cleveland has had their share of great running back combinations in the past but these two are the ones who are most similar to what the current stable could end up looking like on the field in 2020.
