Carolina Panthers Trade

To be blunt, the Carolina Panthers tight end room right now is pretty bad. Their projected starting tight end is Ian Thomas, who only caught 16 passes last season for them. Replacing Greg Olsen is going to be a huge problem for the franchise, so they get it done here with the Browns.

Njoku’s projected value of a 4th or 5th round pick won’t be enough to get a deal done with general manager Andrew Berry. If the Panthers are going to want to secure their tight end of the future, they’re going to have to raise their bargaining price. In return for David Njoku, the Panthers send the Browns a 3rd round pick and linebacker Jermaine Carter Jr.

Jermaine Carter Jr, as pictured above, was a 5th round pick for the Panthers in the 2018 NFL draft. He has been productive for the team on special teams and has seen the field a bit for the Panthers at the linebacker position. Collecting around 24 percent of the defensive snaps and 59 percent of the snaps on special teams, he has been given time early in his career to contribute and has done some pretty good things for the Panthers in those snaps.

It’s very unlikely the Browns net a solid starter in return for Njoku, but Carter would be a very interesting piece to get. At best, he would be able to start at linebacker for the Browns, which is the biggest hole on the team. If not, he could still be a valuable special teams player who could rotate with the linebackers. The 3rd round pick is the meat of this deal, but the Browns should try to get a player too.

Addressing the 7th round pick the Browns give to the Panthers, there is a discrepancy over what 7th round picks the Browns actually have. It is unknown if the Bills gave the Browns their own 7th round pick or the Panthers 7th round pick, and it is unknown if the Browns gave the Broncos their 7th round pick, or the 7th round pick belonging to the Bills or Panthers in the trade for Andy Janovich.
