Matt Judon

Coming off of a pro bowl season that saw Matt Judon racking up 9.5 sacks, 14 tackles for loss, and 33 quarterback hits, its time for a new contract for the fifth-round pick out of Grand Valley State. Judon is currently going to be playing on his franchise tag. Now that Myles Garrett has gotten paid from the Browns, he should be raising his asking prices.

Judon is not better than Myles Garrett, but as the Ravens’ premier pass-rusher, he should want to get paid like it. He most likely won’t settle on a contract extension worth more than Myles Garrett’s 25 million dollars per year due to a plethora of reasons, but he is going to shoot as close to that as he can.

Considering Judon is only 27 years old and going to turn 28 this season, the Ravens should be able to get 3-4 more seasons, including this one, of his prime out of him before age starts to take its toll. Even if age starts to take its toll, Judon should still be a very good pass-rusher in the NFL.

Before Myles Garrett’s extension, it seemed nearly impossible to think that Judon would be signing an extension for 20 million dollars. Now that Garrett has inflated the pass-rushing market, surpassing Khalil Mack’s 23.5 million dollars per year average by 1.5 million dollars, Judon should be shooting for around 20 million dollars.

Considering the Ravens are going to have to start saving up cap space for a Lamar Jackson extension, along with some of their other stud players like Ronnie Stanley, Judon’s increased value could lead to some hard decisions to be made in Baltimore.

If Judon is allowed to hit the open market, he will definitely make more than 20 million dollars per year. This Myles Garrett extension is great news for the former fifth-round pick’s wallet and bad news for the Browns division rival.
