The one position that continues to be a worry for most Browns fans is linebacker. Mack Wilson will likely be great after a strong rookie campaign and an additional year of learning. After that, the depth chart is not extremely impressive. The crystal ball right now says rookie Jacob Phillips and Wilson will be taking most of the snaps with newly acquired B.J. Goodson stepping in on obvious running downs.

Nigel Bradham is a strong candidate who has ties to Berry back to the Philadelphia Eagles. The big question from Browns fans, why is the team waiting? And the answer to that could be a few off-field issues that have developed with Bradham which Berry is more aware of than others. There are also some health concerns.

Bradham has spent eight years in the league with two different teams and has had two seasons with 100-plus tackles. Bradham has also been durable, but has faced multiple suspensions. While there is no doubt Bradham would be an upgrade for the Browns roster, the off-field issues and health concerns could be too much.

Berry has done a tremendous job this offseason to start a culture change, which has been desperately needed for 20 years. For too long the Browns have been expected “losers” and it is a tough mindset to change. With such a fragile situation, off-field shenanigans could just be an unnecessary sideshow.

However, with Bradham on the market this late and at his age, the Browns could get a steal from a motivated player who would want to prove everyone wrong. Bradham feels like a low enough risk to at least bring to training camp. If it feels like his issues have followed him, cut him before the season. With an extremely young linebacker room, Bradham could be a major missing piece to take the Browns to the next level.
