Reserve/Squad (2)

The Browns, and every other team in the NFL, are going to have two roster spots at their disposal each week. These spots will be for practice squad players that can be called up and sent back without being subjected to waivers. Here we will look at two players who could be candidates for these slots, starting with a rookie who has a very recognizable name.

Solomon Ajayi, Linebacker

Liberty linebacker Solomon Ajayi is the younger brother of running back Jay Ajayi. The elder Ajayi brother is still technically a free agent and has had a hard time finding a home due to knee issues. Still, he’s a Super Bowl champion who had a solid run to start his career.

As for the younger Ajayi, he comes in from a much less heralded program than his brother — who was a star at Boise State. What he does have going for him is the fact that the Browns linebacker depth chart isn’t very deep. They’re also likely to use this slot for a linebacker due to that youth and the fact that they’re not exactly over-valuing the position.

Porter Gustin, EDGE

Undrafted our if USC, Porter Gustin struggled with injuries throughout his collegiate career. He still flashed his pass-rushing abilities despite the limited time and that led to him earning a spot with Cleveland.

With the Browns struggling with health — and navigating Myles Garrett’s suspension — Gustin got his shot in 2019. He finished with 13 tackles and one sack and has a shot at making the roster this season.

In this prediction, he’s the final player to make the roster and he’s on the reserve spot simply because of the addition of Adrian Clayborn. Gustin will primarily battle with Chad Thomas for snaps and right now, Thomas has the edge over him.
