Myles Garrett took the high road with racist DMs

It’s not uncommon for athletes to have their direct messages open on social media, but they usually understand there’s some risk in this practice. Aside from the potential overflow of messages, there’s also a high probability that someone who despises that athlete could slip into those DMs with some hateful comments, which is exactly what happened on Saturday with Myles Garrett.

The Cleveland Browns defensive end has always been a great presence on social media for fans of the team as he’s quick to engage with them — and usually does so in a playful manner. He’s been on there talking about TV shows, other sports he follows, and of course his favorite thing in the world, dinosaurs.

But even someone as likable as Jurrasic Myles can sometimes get hate from the public and that was proven when someone decided to send him racist hate mail for no apparent reason. Garrett, however, didn’t let the messages ruin his day but instead decided to put this user names Luke on blast, while also trying to find him a woman so he would stay out of Garrett’s inbox.

"“Attention all ladies, this man is obviously in need of some attention because he won’t stay out of my dms at 5am. If you’re into racists hit em up on insta.” — Myles Garrett via Twitter"

Garrett’s humor in the situation is admirable. The fact that he can turn the other cheek and make a joke about such a serious situation is a great complement to his character. He clearly made a choice not to allow someone else’s lack of human decency to change who he is, or alter his state of mind.

As for the person sending him the messages, that’s a disgusting act and there’s absolutely no excuse for it. Garrett would have had every right to flip out on the guy for such hate but he took the high road and in doing so completely owned this guy with his retort.

Hats off to Myles Garrett for being able to rise above the hate and be a positive influence in this world. And Luke, get help.
