4. Sheldrick Redwine will beat Andrew Sendejo

When the Browns let Damarious Randall walk in free agency, it was apparent they were going to need some help. They found that quickly in Karl Joseph and Andrew Sendejo, who are both very capable players. In fact, GM Andrew Berry was so confident in these two that he also released Morgan Burnett, which sent both previous starters out the door.

Berry then added Grant Delpit in the draft and he’s expected to start alongside Joseph, a former first-round pick of the Raiders who will benefit from a fresh start. While those should be the main starters, there will be a third safety on the field an awful lot in Joe Woods defensive scheme and it’s been a safe assumption that Sendejo will win that job. But that’s still not a guarantee.

Cleveland has a returning safety who has been overlooked in Sheldrick Redwine. A fourth-round pick out of Miami last season, Redwine had 42 tackles in 12 games — with five starts as a rookie. And while he had his share of growing pains last year, he finished 46th out of 82 qualifying safeties according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required) which isn’t bad for someone drafted during the final day.

He was also much better in pass coverage than he was in run support which could help him get on the field when the Browns do move to their nickel packages.

Of course, it won’t be easy since Sendejo has always been a very underrated player. However, Redwine’s youth, speed, and energy could help him find a way to beat out the veteran this camp.
