1. Harrison Bryant will earn the second tight end spot

Right now, the Cleveland Browns have been adamant — they are not moving David Njoku. The former first-round pick requested a trade and even brought in superagent Drew Rosenhaus to try and facilitate a deal.

The same thing happened in 2019 when Duke Johnson wanted out and the Browns were just as steadfast in saying he would be with them when the season began. Then, Johnson decided not to practice at camp. Sure, there was a hamstring injury listed as the reason but that injury healed up as soon as he was on a plane headed to Houston.

While Duke took the hard-line approach, Njoku seems ready to take the high road. He’s saying the right things and is all-in on the 2020 season with Cleveland. Having said all that, there’s still no guarantee he will be the second tight end alongside new star Austin Hooper.

The main competition for Njoku is going to be rookie Harrison Bryant who was added in the fourth-round out of Florida Atlantic. Where Bryant really stood out for FAU was as a receiver. In his final season, he had 1,004 yards and seven touchdowns on 65 receptions.

Of course, he comes in as a pure-receiving threat at the position and could even spend time in an H-back role. The reason for that is his issues in the blocking game, but let’s be honest — he can’t be worse in this department than Njoku.

Since the two are comparable when it comes to in-line blocking, look for Bryant to be able to make it close with his versatility and ability to break the game open in the passing game.

Not only that, but he was chosen by head coach Kevin Stefanski and new general manager Andrew Berry whereas they inherited Njoku. For that reason, a tie could go to their guy which would be the biggest shock of the offseason.
