Two Pro-Bowl Rookies:

The ultimate dream scenario for the Browns in 2020 may not be that farfetched, and that is having two rookies make the pro-bowl. The easy assumption is that it would be Jedrick Wills at left tackle and Grant Delpit at safety who would check this box, but let’s not forget about Brandon Phillips who could be a surprising day one starter at linebacker.

After so many struggles with draft picks before 2017, having two pro-bowl rookies would solidify Berry’s performance in year one as general manager, and set the tone as the Browns being a contender, and no longer a pretender. The culture of losing will be the toughest thing to shake, but it appears this year’s team and coaches could have what it takes.

Wills may have the toughest challenge making the pro-bowl at left tackle. For one, he is transitioning from right tackle, so it may take him a few weeks to really get comfortable. Without a preseason, you may see a few glimpses of “rookie mistakes” which will hurt his chances.

Additionally, there is a ton of talent at left tackle in the NFL. It’s the second or third most coveted position in the league behind quarterback and possibly defensive end. Wills will really have to shine to stand out to voters.

While it will be difficult to earn pro-bowl honors, Delpit and Phillips both could come out and surprise fans. With a strong pass rush up front from Myles Garrett and Olivier Vernon, Delpit could find himself a few easy interceptions to get his confidence boosted quickly. That and his size to move up into the box could create a strong stat line that would make it tough for voters to look past.

Phillips is another long shot, but after a strong performance in college behind Patrick Queen, he could fill the same role behind Mack Wilson in 2020. After a strong rookie year, fans are expecting huge things from Wilson this season.  Phillips could quietly play beside Wilson and just stuff the stat sheet with tackles. Phillips may not jump off the film but could have a strong enough campaign to make some noise in pro-bowl voting.

There is no doubt that having two rookie pro-bowlers is a dream scenario, but with a strong draft class anything could happen. The argument could be made if scenarios number three and two do come true, this one is much more likely.
