Cleveland Browns Roster Prediction: Cornerback (5)

There were a couple of additions this offseason to the Browns cornerback corps which included adding free agent Kevin Johnson. After a strong start, Johnson suffered a lacerated liver and actually starts the season out on either the injured reserve or PUP list. Sure, he’s been doing light work at practice but expecting him to be ready by Week 1 is not reasonable.

Denzel Ward, Greedy Williams, Terrence Mitchell, M.J. Stewart, A.J. Green

Denzel Ward is the unquestioned No. 1 cornerback and starting opposite him will be Greedy Williams. However, Williams also has some question as to his availability due to suffering a shoulder injury but as of now, the prediction is he will escape the PUP or IR — even if he can’t suit up Week 1.

Terrance Mitchell ends up taking the No. 3 job and could be starting early on as Williams battles his way back. Mitchell could have been in trouble due to his high salary and the fact that he was fourth on the depth chart but he’s suddenly a very important piece due to the injuries.

M.J. Stewart was claimed recently on waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and he’s been playing well in the slot. He should be manning that role early on and even when everyone is at 100 percent. he might still keep it.

The last player to make the team is rookie A.J. Green. The Browns gave him a hefty guarantee after he went undrafted meaning they likely have plans for him.
