3. Damion Ratley, Wide Receiver

Entering training camp, it seemed as though Damion Ratley had the inside track to the fifth wide receiver spot. The Browns weren’t budging at No. 1 and 2 with Odell Beckham, Jr. and Jarvis Landry. They were also pretty sold on Rashard Higgins as the third guy and while he might not technically be the fourth receiver on gameday in Week 1, rookie Donovan Peoples-Jones surely had a role on this roster.

That meant if they were going to keep five wideouts (a safe assumption) there was one spot up for grabs. Players such as Taywan Taylor, JoJo Natson, and KhaDarel Hodge were in the mix but it seemed as though third-year player Damion Ratley would be the favorite.

A former sixth-round pick out of Texas A&M, Ratley has plenty of raw talent and has the deep speed that coaches love. However, he has yet to put it all together and continues to battle injuries. And in 2020, the injuries became an issue again as Ratley missed time with a groin injury which opened the door for some of his competitors.

With that door opened, it’s safe to say KhaDarel Hodge was able to push his way in. While no one has said much at all about Ratley, Hodge has been making some impressive plays for the Browns. For that reason, Ratley finds himself in trouble as his stock has taken a dip.
