3 Free agents Cleveland Browns can sign after Week 1
By Randy Gurzi
1. Damon Harrison, Nose Tackle
We are being honest, it’s hard to really beat on the Browns too much for their run defense on Sunday. The Baltimore Ravens had 107 yards rushing and two touchdowns, but it took them 30 attempts. That means, they held the impressive Baltimore ground game to just 3.5 yards per rush — the problem is, they surrendered two touchdowns and couldn’t get the stops when they really needed them.
For that reason, it wouldn’t be a bad idea for them to look to somebody such as Damon Harrison as a potential free-agent addition. Harrison may be 31-years of age, but there’s no denying that Snacks can still play at a high level.
Currently unsigned, Harrison spent the past two seasons with the Detroit Lions. In 2019, he had 49 tackles and two sacks as he continued to be a force in the run game. Having said that, his numbers were down according to Pro Football Focus, who graded him much lower than the season before, but that doesn’t mean he’s done.
Right now, Harrison would be a great fit for the Browns who need a true run-stuffing nose tackle. It’s true that Larry Ogunjobi had one of the best games of his young career on Sunday but adding Harrison wouldn’t limit him. Instead, it would give Cleveland a player they could rotate in, especially on the goal line and known-running situations.
Cleveland still has time to turn it around. It’s a long season and we need to be patient, but they could help themselves by looking at free agency to these names.
