Yards Per Attempt

This is the one area of Baker Mayfield’s passing game that could require some improvement. Both Mayfield and Joe Burrow are near the bottom of the league in yards per attempt. Mayfield’s low yards per attempt could be because teams are trying to stop the Browns from taking the top off of defenses with deep passes, or because Baker doesn’t feel confident enough to consistently make accurate passes downfield yet in this offense.

"Lamar Jackson (7.8 Y/A) Ben Roethlisberger (7.1 Y/A) Baker Mayfield (6.3 Y/A) Joe Burrow (6.3 Y/A)"

Regardless of the reason, the Browns could really use some improvement in this category. If the Browns don’t show they can pass the ball deep downfield, teams will start to stack the box and try to really neutralize our running game, which is the lifeline of our offense right now.

The entire division could use some improvement in this category, as Lamar Jackson is ranked 14th in the NFL and is the highest-ranked in the AFC North.

Big Ben and Joe Burrow both rank in the bottom half of the league, along with Baker Mayfield. This obviously isn’t the end of the world, as most of the AFC North teams have been very successful this season while suffering in this statistic, but it is something to keep an eye on as teams start to adjust to our running attack.
