Cleveland Browns: 3 matchups to watch in Week 5
Odell Beckham Jr vs Xavier Rhodes
After the game that Odell Beckham Jr. had in Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys, all eyes are going to be on him to see how he follows up that incredible performance. Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus dials up a pretty zone heavy scheme. However, when the Colts decide to go in man coverage, Xavier Rhodes will draw the assignment to cover Beckham.
Rhodes, a former three-time pro bowl selection, signed with the Colts this past offseason after spending seven seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. The former first-round draft pick has been outstanding since joining the Colts. In Week 2, Rhodes notched two interceptions including one that he took back for a touchdown during the Colts trouncing of the New York Jets.
There is no denying that the Browns offense is at their most effective when they get Beckham involved early in the game. It is imperative for coach Stefanski to establish the threat of Beckham to keep the Colts defense honest. It will be equally important for the Colts to not have to assign extra help to Beckham’s side of the field because of the Browns running game.
The Colts will roll the dice and take their chances with Rhodes, who will be the best cornerback Beckham has lined up against since Week 1. Expect to see a heavyweight battle on the outside this Sunday.
