3. Matthew Stafford

Like Matt Ryan, former first overall pick Matthew Stafford may be on shaky ground with the Detroit Lions. This is not an indictment against the talent and production of Stafford, but rather the current state of the franchise as they could be looking at yet another turnover at the head coaching position. Matt Patricia is on the hot seat, with his status leaning towards the door rather than staying; if the Lions face yet another regime change, will Stafford survive?

If he does not survive, I know one team who should be on the phone right away and inquire about the price of Stafford, and that team is the Browns. Stafford has remained one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the NFL throughout his career, and that is because he has played his entire career in Detroit.

While Stafford is not familiar with a Kubiak offense, neither is Mayfield, and if I am betting on who can pick up the system faster, it is Stafford. Ownership in Detroit loves Stafford, so there is a chance the new head coach keeps him in the building, and why wouldn’t that coach want one of the better quarterbacks in the league?

However, crazier things have happened in the NFL, and a new head coach may want his own guy under center for the future.
