Cleveland Browns: 3 key matchups for Week 7
3. Myles Garrett vs Bobby Hart
After a disappointing start to the season, by his own admission, Myles Garrett got it going in the Browns first matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2. Garrett’s stat line, although fine, with three total tackles, two quarterback hits, one sack, and one forced fumble, did not properly reflect how effective he was.
Many of Joe Burrow’s incomplete passes (24 incomplete pass attempts in Week 2) could be traced back to the pressure Garrett was creating. Garrett constantly had his way with the Bengals offensive line, and right tackle Bobby Hart in particular. Garrett was able to push Hart back into Burrow’s lap as if he was wearing roller skates.
Now Garrett gets his second crack at Hart, and it could be a long afternoon for the Bengals right tackle. Garrett is no one-trick pony. As physically gifted as Garrett is, that is not the only facet of his game. Garrett has proved to be a cerebral player as well.
The Defensive Player of the Year candidate is going to take the data he extracted from their first encounter and use it to aid him in this next matchup. Garrett has experienced how Hart reacts to certain situations and how he counters particular moves. This is where the chess match begins, having a counter to your opponent’s counter, and make him question himself could lead to big mistakes. And it only takes one mistake for Garrett to change a game.
