Cleveland Browns: One trade target from all other 31 teams
Kyler Fackrell, while playing on a pretty bad team in the New York Giants, has played pretty well. After four years in Green Bay, Fackrell signed a one year deal, and knew he had to prove himself to get a long term deal somewhere after this season. His play so far has made him a prime target for trade, especially since the Giants playoff hopes are all but over, and want to receive something for him now rather than nothing for him at the end of the season.
The Cleveland Browns could really use a linebacker like Fackrell, who is good at both run defense and rushing the passer. He has 19.5 sacks in his career, and his ability to do both could help a Browns linebacking unit that needs a playmaker in a huge way. B.J. Goodson has been the best linebacker, and behind him, there’s not much overall talent to provide much hope of success in the middle of the Browns defense.
Fackrell could provide immediate relief for a Browns team in need of a boost at the linebacker position and could be a rather inexpensive long-term option if he continues to build on the year he’s having once he is in a Browns uniform.
Let the New York Jets firesale begin! While the Jets have made it known they don’t intend to trade star defensive line Quinnen Williams, that still remains a possibility, as does most anyone else on their roster. The Jets are in tank mode right now, and the only way to mess that up is to start winning games. Ridding themselves of any true talent is the best way to ensure that doesn’t happen, so it’s free game for the Browns and others to call and inquire about players they’re interested in. One player the Browns should consider is linebacker Avery Williamson.
Williamson took a pay cut this past offseason, but remained with the Jets. He is set to be a free agent after this season, so his price may be much lower than what it would have been prior to the season. The Browns could use a player like Williamson, who is a tackling machine and loves to hit anyone that comes near him. Since letting linebacker Joe Schobert walk in free agency this past season, the Browns have struggled to find success at the linebacker position. Williamson could be the solution to that for a late-round pick, be it in 2021 or in the future.
This trade may not make sense to some, especially considering how much the Philadelphia Eagles have struggled to keep receivers healthy and on the field this season. However, it appears that even with those receiver health issues, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside has worn out his welcome in Philadelphia with both the team and the fans, and it may just be time for a fresh start for him to see if he can live up to his second-round pick expectations.
The Cleveland Browns could be a good landing spot for Arcega-Whiteside to hit reset on his NFL career. While he only has 12 receptions so far in the league, an offense like the Browns, who focuses on the running game and ball control, could be something that works with him, considering he played in a similar offense at Stanford.
The flexibility of Arcega-Whiteside’s contract makes him another interesting trade target, as he still has two years left after this year on his rookie deal. With Odell Beckham Jr out for this season, and other receivers on the roster being set to hit free agency sooner than Arcega-Whiteside’s contract ends, it could be valuable depth and a good experiment for both he and the Cleveland Browns.
