5 Studs and Duds for the Cleveland Browns in Week 8 defeat
By Greg Newland
Dud: Larry Ogunjobi, Defensive Tackle
At times to begin the season, defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi looked to be on his way to earning a big second contract from the team that drafted him. That’s a big deal for the Browns who haven’t had a draft pick resigned since Tom Heckert was the general manager.
While Ogunjobi may be playing slightly injured, he has been less than stellar the last month of the season. He continues to get washed out in run defense and hasn’t been creating any pressure up the middle. Ogunjobi was never known for his run defense, but he had in the past been average. His inside push on passing plays was his strong point, that has been completely taken over by Sheldon Richardson.
On top of poor play on the field, mental mistakes have been too much to handle as a fan. He has had multiple offsides penalties this season (you line up over the ball, come on), and on Sunday had a facemask penalty on a sack that gave the Raiders a first down on the drive that ultimately put the game out of reach.
With rookie Jordan Elliott showing some ability and Andrew Billings returning next season after opting out for COVID-19, don’t look for the Browns to open the Checkbook to Ogunjobi. The run defense has to be better, and it starts with the interior of the defensive line which is getting manhandled at times.
