Cleveland Browns mid-season awards: MVP, best coach, top players
By Grant Puskar
Mid-season MVP: Myles Garrett
This award was by far the easiest to give out. Defensive end Myles Garrett should be in the conversation for NFL MVP, as well as defensive player of the year this season.
From a flood of strip sacks to a 5-game sack streak to leading the NFL in total sacks, Garrett has been doing it all. When you look at the defense this year and the success they have had, you can put a lot of it on the weight and shoulders of Garrett. The defense for the Browns this season has been bad, so saying Garrett has been the reason for their limited success isn’t really saying much.
Every time Garrett steps on the field, he is bound to do damage to the opposing offense. When you go back and look at film and see Garrett not getting pressure on the play, most of the time it is due to the fact that he is being double-teamed.
Seeing opposite Browns pass-rusher Olivier Vernon finally step up and have success against the Raiders with two sacks was pleasant on the eyes. Garrett has been having this success without much help or production from anyone else on that line. When we see the production from others come in around the line, it only makes Garrett that much better and that much more dangerous.
