Terry Bradshaw wants Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield to get off his lawn

In a segment that should have been called “Get off my Lawn,” former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw sat down with Colin Cowherd and decided to tell the world about all the quarterbacks they don’t like. Naturally, this led to Cowherd bringing up Cleveland Browns starter, Baker Mayfield.

Bradshaw wasted no time taking the bait and jumped right in with his opinion on Mayfield. The Hall of Famer was blunt in his assessment, saying he not only doesn’t like Mayfield but that he never has been a fan of him.

When asked what it is about Mayfield he doesn’t like, he went on to discuss his body language on the sideline.

"“I don’t like Baker Mayfield and I never did … His body language and the way he acts is a turnoff for me."

From there, Bradshaw continued to offer up reasons he doesn’t like Mayfield, saying that he himself is a “character guy” and “I don’t like people like that.” Which makes it seem as though there’s something in Mayfield’s character that Bradshaw doesn’t approve of.

However, there’s one problem since he went on from there to say he’s never actually met Mayfield. As if that wasn’t weird enough, he decided to start in on Cam Newton as well saying he doesn’t like the first down celebrations from Newton.

Cowherd turned the conversation to Drew Lock and how he doesn’t like the way he dances around during games. In his defense, Cowherd did like the fact that Lock had a snappy comeback. Still, the most bizarre was how they both brought up Johnny Manziel more than once, not realizing that Manziel’s issues and reasons for failure had nothing to do with first-down celebrations, dancing, or whatever Mayfield did to upset Bradshaw so much.

While Bradshaw and Cowherd are entitled to their opinion, one thing is true — the game has changed since Bradshaw played. Quarterbacks during his time were supposed to fit a certain mold but the truth is, in 2020, it’s much more important these players be themselves.

Mayfield, Newton, and Lock have all gotten to where they are by being true to themselves. For Mayfield, that means playing with a bit of an edge. For Newton, it means celebrating to get himself fired up. For Lock, it means dancing and throwing out the occasional freestyle. Not everyone has to like it, but they have to be true to themselves. Worrying about what Cowherd or Bradshaw say would be pointless — I mean, Bradshaw even ripped Aaron Rodgers a bit, so clearly he’s just pining for the good old days when he walked to practice 10 miles up the hill both ways, in the snow, before shoes were invented.

Next. Bye week report cards, DL. dark

Having said all that, the one thing that’s really unfair is that TB has never actually met Mayfield. For all his talk about being a character guy, maybe he should try and meet the kid before simply casting him aside.
