2. Quarterback Play

While Baker Mayfield has not been setting the world on fire this season, he also hasn’t been asked to. Mayfield has been tasked with playing ball-control offense and picking up the occasional long third down. For the most part, Mayfield has held up his end of the bargain and should be credited for the steps he has taken to improve on the aspects of the game that plagued him in 2019.

Where Mayfield has shown the most improvement this season is his play in the red-zone. In 2019, Mayfield only completed 40.5 percent of his 74 pass attempts in the red zone and threw three interceptions. His touchdown to interception ratio was the 3rd lowest in the NFL behind Sam Darnold, Mitchell Trubisky, and tied with Philip Rivers.

So far in 2020, Mayfield has completed 61 percent of his red-zone pass attempts and has thrown for 13 touchdowns with zero interceptions. In short, Mayfield is executing within the structure of the offense and playing winning football. There is still room for exponential growth from Mayfield in Stefanski’s system which could lead to some big games down the homestretch of the season.

The Jaguars are starting Mike Glennon against the Browns. It will be Glennon’s first NFL start since 2017 when he was brought into Chicago to mentor Trubisky. Glennon will be the third quarterback to start for the Jaguars so far this season.

Quarterback advantage, Baker Mayfield by a lot.
