3. Protect Baker Mayfield

The first thing that the Cleveland Browns must do if they want to defeat the Tennesee Titans is to protect Baker Mayfield. This could also be stretched to quality blocking for the running game as well.

In their last matchup, the Browns could not move the ball at all. Part of the reasoning behind that is the atrocious play from the offensive line. In the offseason, through free agency and the draft Cleveland has made strives to improve their O-line and it has shown.

Statistically, this is a much better offensive line than last year. Mayfield’s sack percentage has dropped to 5.5 percent compared to the 7 percent that it was at last season. Along with this, Mayfield is having the best season of his entire career in every pressure stat. His pocket time is 2.5 seconds which is a career-high. He has faced 96 blitzes which will likely still be a career-low by the end of the year. He has only suffered 13 hits so far this season. Mayfield has only faced 56 QB pressures which is good for a pressure percentage of 17.4 percent which are both career lows.

In the game against the Titans last year, Mayfield was sacked five times for a combined loss of 41 yards. The ease that the Titans had in getting to Mayfield could be part of the reason why he totaled three interceptions in this matchup last year.

Lastly, along with protecting Baker, better play from the players up front will allow for the Browns to continue the rushing onslaught they have unleashed this season.
