Cleveland Browns seek revenge against Titans in Tennessee
By Josh Brown
4. Kareem Hunt
The Browns entered 2019 with Kareem Hunt as part of the organization, but he was suspended for the first eight games. The Titans didn’t have to deal with what has become the best backfield in the NFL, with Hunt and Nick Chubb running wild. Both Hunt and Chubb are now healthy and the actual focal point of an offense that generates 161.4 yards per game on the ground.
Tennessee saw a team last season that came in trying to be a high flying passing game, and it floundered in a flurry of penalties, bad routes/throws, and interceptions galore. The Browns made it very easy for the Titans in 2019. This year the Titans’ defense is a little worse, more on that later, and the Browns come in a more fundamentally sound team. The offense uses a combination of Chubb and Hunt to keep the ground game fresh and sprinkles in an efficient passing attack. It is a far cry from what the Browns tried to do in 2019, and the use of Hunt along with Chubb is what makes it work. The proof is in the numbers.
The Browns rushing attack with both Chubb and Hunt on the field has averaged 199 yards per game. Without both of them, it falls to 95.5 yards per game. While Chubb is the clear starter, Hunt is a massive part of keeping the tandem fresh and does plenty of damage himself.
As the second back in the offense this season, he is averaging 77.9 yards per game from scrimmage. That is a weapon the Titans did not have to account for last year and has been an enormous piece of the offense this year.
