JosephOssai. 2.57. 851. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. EDGE. Texas. player

Joseph Ossai was a linebacker for his first two seasons at Texas, but made the transition to the edge this year, and it’s safe to say that was the correct decision. He’s a strong run defender with a non-stop motor, and has great size at 6-4, 253 pounds. He’s logged 5.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss this season, with many more pressures added. Olivier Vernon is playing his way to a new contract with the Browns, but they’ll still need improved depth and a long-term complement to Myles Garrett, and Ossai can do both right away. He’s got the kind of frame that the team seems to want at EDGE; built enough to hold ground in the run game and set the edge against rushing offenses like Baltimore.

Ossai may never be a star in the NFL, but at this value in the second round, the Browns would be getting a starting-caliber player right off the bat with the potential to develop into something much more. His positional versatility will also be attractive to teams, especially those who run 3-4 looks. Vernon has functioned as a stand-up EDGE quite often this season, so that’s a role Ossai could fill very well. He could easily hear his name called in the first round come late April.
