Cleveland Browns studs and duds from convincing Week 15 win vs. Giants
By Randy Gurzi
Stud: Baker Mayfield
Once again, Baker Mayfield is proving to be the quarterback the Cleveland Browns thought he was when they used the No. 1 pick in 2018 on him. He was absolutely dealing in this one as he had one of his best games of the season.
Mayfield started the game 9-of-10 in the first quarter with 92 yards and had them at the 22-yard line to start the second half. He had a scramble that set them up for a third-and-goal from the two-yard line then capped it off with a touchdown pass to Austin Hooper to put the Browns up 7-3. That was the 13th play of the drive that covered 75 yards — and was a perfect answer to New York’s first score of the game prior to that.
He had a second touchdown pass on their next drive which was also from two-yards out. This time, he hit Jarvis Landry, who hauled it in to put a bow on a 10-play, 95-yard drive. Unfortunately, Landry was called for a taunting penalty, which forced Cody Parkey to kick a 48-yard extra point, which hit the right upright.
Mayfield’s night only got better from there. He continued to make the right reads and was absolutely deadly with the play-action pass. He finished with 297 yards passing and two touchdowns and added 11 yards on four rushes as he once again made a couple of clutch runs including a key third-down conversion.
Over the past four games, Mayfield now has 10 touchdown passes and one touchdown run against only one pick. He’s cleaned up the turnovers and has been playing with insane confidence.
Earlier in the season, the narrative was that Cleveland was winning in spite of him. After this win, it would be a stretch for anyone to say they’re not winning because of him.
