By Sam Penix
2. Week 6 at Pittsburgh Steelers
The Browns defeated the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5 to take them to 4-1, and this game was hailed as their chance to prove their worth in the AFC playoff picture. The Steelers have been the big brother for 20 years, it was time to show them that the Browns weren’t to be bullied anymore.
Baker Mayfield’s first pass attempt was returned for a touchdown by Minkah Fitzpatrick, and the beatdown ensued. Surprisingly, the Cleveland defense kept the team in the game longer than they deserved, but the offense had a terrible day.
They mustered Another claim Browns will move on from Baker Mayfield with loss surfaces, and Mayfield was under constant duress. He entered the game dealing with cracked ribs, and was hit hard many times throughout the game, ultimately being replaced by Case Keenum late in the third quarter (well after the game was out of hand) to avoid further injury.
It was a frustrating loss because there was so much hype going into the game, and all that the drubbing proved was that the Browns weren’t quite ready to sit at the adult table yet. As the Steelers sat Ben Roethlisberger and other key veteran starters in the season finale, the Browns didn’t get the chance for redemption in the regular season, but they’ll get their shot in the first round of the playoffs.
