Cleveland Browns: Baker Mayfield’s 5 worst games of 2020
By Sam Penix
4. Week 4 at Dallas Cowboys
It took a while for Baker Mayfield to get comfortable in the Kevin Stefanski offense, as he wasn’t used to running a run-based scheme that had him under center often. His early games are very up-and-down, and this was a perfect example of that. He did go 19 of 30 for 165 yards and two touchdowns, and with under a minute to go in the third quarter, the Browns had a 41-14 lead.
The Cowboys came roaring back in the fourth quarter, and if not for a fantastic 59-yard touchdown run by Odell Beckham Jr., Cleveland may very well have lost. Mayfield made some nice throws, but he also had some bad misses, and was fortunate that at least three or four of his attempts weren’t picked off.
This game is worse than his outing against the Philadelphia Eagles, because while he missed some easy touchdowns against Philly, he also kept the ball out of harm’s way. Mayfield did not do that against Dallas, and the Browns won this game thanks to a dominant performance on the ground (307 yards). Both Mayfield and Dak Prescott should have had more passes picked off that day, which may have lead to a different outcome.
