One of the many puzzling parts of 2020 was Minnesota’s unwillingness to part ways with Anthony Harris via trade.

This is another age-old story of a player that the Browns continually pursued a trade for, all the way from the offseason until the deadline, and it just never got done. The interest is there for the Browns to acquire Harris, according to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, but the team was not going to sacrifice a second-round draft pick.

Now, Harris has entered free agency for the second straight season, after signing a one-year deal to remain in Minnesota for one more season. The Browns could finally pursue that interest.

Harris has been one of the NFL’s best safeties for the last several seasons, thriving in coverage.

Pairing Harris at free safety with Ronnie Harrison at strong safety would be an immediate upgrade over what the Browns tried to do this season. Andrew Sendejo will likely not be back with the Browns. Sheldrick Redwine does not seem ready to assume the full-time role. Grant Delpit is coming off a ruptured Achilles.

Adding a veteran like Harris on a team-friendly deal would give the safety room a ton of depth and allow the Browns to glance past the position in the draft.
