2. Corey Davis, wide receiver

When the Tennessee Titans drafted wide receiver Corey Davis out of Western Michigan in the 2017 NFL Draft, they believed they had their No. 1 receiver for the foreseeable future. Davis, however, was inconsistent in his first three seasons, with his best statistical season coming in his sophomore campaign, where he had 891 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 65 receptions. In his other two seasons combined entering 2020, Davis has just over 900 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Because of his inconsistent production, the Titans declined Davis’ fifth-year option for next season. Davis had his best statistical year in 2020 after the Titans declined this option and now must decide to either sign him for a higher price than the option would have been, or allow him to enter free agency.

Should Davis enter free agency, the Cleveland Browns would be wise to make him a priority target in their offers. For one, the weakest unit on the Browns offense is the wide receiver position. Sure, the team has big names, such as Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry, but even beyond those two, they lack a big-bodied and speedy threat to stretch the field vertically.

While Davis may not be the fastest receiver available, he has the hands and ability to get separation on defenders to help create big plays. Landry is a receiver who runs short routes and is a thin-bodied tight end at the wide receiver position, and Beckham Jr. and quarterback Baker Mayfield have never clicked when on the field at the same time.

Perhaps adding a wide receiver such as Davis this offseason could provide the necessary spark to an offense that is missing just a few key pieces to get over the top. He wouldn’t be too expensive for the Browns to sign, and would provide quality depth for the wide receiver unit, especially if they decided to part with either Odell Beckham Jr. or Jarvis Landry.
