2. Justin Reid, S

A 2018 third-round pick, Justin Reid has been one of the NFL’s better coverage safeties over the past three seasons, but is also quite effective in the box, as evidenced by his 249 career tackles. He will be entering the final year of his rookie contract and seems like the kind of versatile defensive back that the Browns would love to keep around long-term.

Defensive coordinator Joe Woods wants to eventually run a base dime scheme, which would feature just one linebacker. That means that Cleveland has to stock their secondary with good players who can do multiple things, especially at safety. Reid plays as a slot corner quite often and could fill the big nickel spot while Ronnie Harrison Jr. plays strong safety and Grant Delpit roams around back deep.

The Texans have basically no draft assets, and are unlikely to re-sign Reid given where they are as a franchise, so he shouldn’t cost all too much. Harrison cost a fifth, so a fourth or a third for Reid, a better player, would be where discussions should begin. The Browns are probably taking a safety with one of those picks anyway, so why not get someone you know is good?
